Frequently Asked Questions

Heavy Duty Towing Questions

How much does heavy duty towing cost in Ontario, CA?

Published rate sheets show heavy tows at about $450 to hook up plus $9.50 to $10 per mile, accident recovery with a heavy wrecker at about $350 to $850 an hour, and rotator work at about $790 to $1,500 an hour. Storage runs about $65 to $100 a day. Rates vary by unit, distance, scene and time of day. Your written invoice estimate is the price.

What do I need to tell the dispatcher?

Your exact location (freeway, direction, exit or mile marker), the unit type and weight class, whether it is loaded and with what, what went wrong, and who is paying. Say right away if the load is hazardous material.

How fast can you get to me?

The dispatcher gives you an honest arrival estimate on the call, based on where you are, traffic and the equipment needed. We do not make blanket time promises.

Do you tow loaded trucks and containers?

Yes. Loaded units may need a heavy wrecker, an underlift or a second truck, and sometimes the load has to be transferred first. Tell us what is on board when you call.

Can you handle a rollover on I-10, I-15 or SR-60?

Yes. Rollovers and jackknifes often need winch lines, air cushions or a rotator, plus traffic control. We work with CHP and Caltrans crews at the scene.

Is dispatch really open at night and on weekends?

Yes. Dispatch answers 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call (909) 552-8200.

Heavy Duty Towing Questions

What weight classes do you tow?

Medium and heavy duty trucks, including Class 7 and 8 tractors, dump trucks, buses and larger work trucks. Give the dispatcher the make, model and weight if you know it.

Do I need to disconnect the driveshaft?

Often, yes, for a drive-axle-down tow. The operator does this if needed. Tell us if the drive axles are locked or damaged.

Can you tow to a shop in another city?

Yes. Long-distance tows are priced by the mile. Tell the dispatcher the destination.

What if my brakes are locked?

Lost air pressure sets spring brakes on a tractor. The operator can release them with the right tools or tow with the drive axle lifted.

Semi Truck Towing Questions

Can you tow a loaded semi?

Yes, but the weight and cargo shape the plan. Tell dispatch what is on board before the wrecker leaves.

What if my trailer has a hazmat placard?

Tell the dispatcher immediately. Hazardous cargo changes the equipment, the scene steps and who must be notified.

Do you tow just the trailer?

Yes. We can move a trailer by itself, or drop it in a safe spot and come back for it.

What do I do while I wait?

Stay out of the traffic lanes, keep hazards on, and wait in a safe place away from the truck. The dispatcher stays on the line.

Container & Trailer Towing Questions

Can you tow a loaded container on a chassis?

Yes. Give us the weight and the cargo. Heavy loads may need an additional wrecker.

Do you move trailers with no tractor?

Yes. We can lift and tow a trailer by itself, or move it with a heavy wrecker.

What if the trailer is a reefer?

Tell us the setpoint and whether the unit is still running. Cargo is time-sensitive, and the dispatcher will plan around it.

Who authorizes the tow of an abandoned trailer?

The owner, the fleet or the broker. We need that authorization before moving it.

Box Truck Towing Questions

Do you tow rental box trucks?

Yes. Tell us the rental company, since many require their own authorization.

Can you tow a box truck with cargo inside?

Yes, if the weight is within the wrecker's rating. We may recommend transferring cargo for heavy loads.

Is a box truck a medium or heavy tow?

It depends on the weight class. Smaller straight trucks are often medium duty. Large ones can need a heavy wrecker.

Can you help if my truck hit a low bridge?

Yes. Tell the dispatcher about the damage and whether the roof or box is still attached.

Accident Recovery Questions

Who decides which tow company responds at a CHP scene?

CHP uses a rotation list to distribute calls, and the scene manager can go to the next company that has the equipment needed. Tell the officer your needs.

Do you handle rollovers with a load?

Yes. The load, fuel and ground conditions decide the method. A rotator or load transfer may be needed.

Can my insurer reach you?

Yes. Insurers and fleet managers can call dispatch for the unit's location, storage and billing.

What should I do at the scene?

Get to safety, call 911 for injuries, tell the dispatcher about fuel, cargo or hazmat, and stay out of traffic.

Heavy Equipment Transport Questions

What is the difference between a lowboy and a landoll?

A lowboy has a low fixed deck for tall machines. A landoll has a tilting deck that lets equipment drive or winch on.

Can you move a machine that does not run?

Yes, with winch lines and heavier equipment. Tell us about the condition so we can plan.

Do you handle permits?

Oversize and overweight loads can need them. Tell us the dimensions, and we discuss what is required before the move.

Can you recover equipment stuck in mud or a slope?

Yes. We use heavy wreckers and winch lines, with a trailer for transport after recovery.
